Fall orientation is an extensive 7-day program which includes a wide variety of activities. There are a number of events planned specifically for new students as well as events to which the entire campus community is invited to attend. During the summer, you will receive several important mailings including the May Orientation Packet, your summer reading assignment, and the July Orientation Mailing packet. These mailings contain information to help you prepare for your arrival on campus. Please open each mailing as soon as it arrives and review the information. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at orientation@whitman.edu.
The May Orientation Packet, which is posted the third week of May, contains very important registration information, medical history/physical exam forms, meal plan sign-up information , and Scrambles (optional wilderness orientation programs) registration forms. This mailing also includes instructions on how to complete the following three tasks, which we ask that you complete as soon as possible once you receive this packet:
Each year, a book is selected for the incoming class to read prior to their arrival on campus. The book is included in the May Orientation Packet. Students are asked to read the book and then to participate in a small group discussion, led by the resident assistants (RAs) and student academic advisors (SAs), during the fall orientation program.

The July mailing is posted the last week of July and contains your housing assignment and the name and contact information of your fall roommate (if applicable), the upcoming fall orientation schedule, and the most recent Student Handbook.
