Program Fees

Program Fees

Currently Whitman students attending off-campus studies programs pay the actual fees of the program, plus a $500 per semester Whitman off-campus studies fee. For schools such as the University of St Andrews or the University of Otago in which students enroll directly in the foreign university through Whitman, Whitman typcially charges participants the university fees plus a small percentage to account for potential fluctuations in the exchange rate.

IMPORTANT:  Please note that Off-Campus Studies at Whitman is undergoing a transition effective Fall 2013 that includes modifications to the fees and program offerings.  If you plan to study abroad in Fall 2013 or later, please see the new OCS 2013 information soon to be updated on our website.

When comparing the cost of different off-campus programs, be sure to include expenses that are not usually covered by the program fees, such as airfare to the off-campus program location, meals not covered in fees, local commuting costs, entertainment, independent travel, passport and visa fees, immunizations, cost of travel to San Francisco or Los Angeles for visa (if applicable), and international medical insurance. Most programs list their fees and student out-of-pocket expenses on their web site. If you have difficulty finding fee and budget information for your program, please contact the Whitman OCS Office.

Enrollment Deposits

When you are admitted into an off-campus study program, the program will usually require that you pay an enrollment deposit to hold your space in the program. Deposits usually range in price from $400-$750 and are due soon after the letter of admission has been issued. Regardless of whether you attend a Partner, Approved or Petioned Program, you will need to pay the program's enrollment deposit directly to the particular off-campus program that you are attending. You should plan for this expense to occur the semester you apply for off-campus study.
