Men Race to 2nd Place Finish

Walla Walla, Wash. – The Whitman Men’s Cross Country team’s season opening race at Fort Walla Walla proved to be a good first test for the experienced Missionary squad. The team finished 2nd in the 8K race led by the strong performances by senior captains Cory Rand and Taylor Mesojednik. Lewis-Clark State won the team event with a total of 18 team points, with Whitman coming in 2nd at 55 points and Pacific Lutheran in 3rd with 61. Dave Marks from LC State won the event with a time of 25:55.85.

Lewis-Clark State, ranked #2 in the country among NAIA colleges, showed their dominance by taking five of the first seven spots.

Whitman’s top two runners, Rand and Mesojednik finished 9th and 10th, respectively. Rand posted Whitman’s best time with a time of 27:57.97. Juniors Spencer Corwin and Joe Mayo were only separated by four seconds as they finished 13th and 14th.

Pacific Lutheran’s best runner Alan DeAdel finished 3rd with a time of 27:21.00.

Whitman’s next event is in two weeks at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle, Wash. on September 15th.
