Canada’s “Perfect Pie” served at Harper Joy Theatre

 Harper Joy Theatre presents “Perfect Pie,” written by Judith Thompson, one of Canada’s most popular and well-known playwrights, Wednesday, Nov. 12, through Sunday, Nov. 16, on the Freimann Stage.

  “Perfect Pie inundates you with direct contact,” says HJT director Mark Kennedy. An Ontario, Canada, native, Kennedy wants to “engage the community with a heart-grabbing and heart-wrenching story from the country that is closest to my heart.” Thompson’s story of childhood friends reunited is “rich, angry, complicated, neurotic, dark and brilliant,” he adds.

 Thompson’s story of childhood friends reunited tells of Francesca, a successful Montreal actress, who has reinvented herself in the decades since her teenage years in a small town in Ontario. She unexpectedly receives a cassette tape and a rhubarb pie from Patsy, the childhood friend she hasn’t seen for 30 years and returns to the small town to confront the terrifying event that separated them and rediscover friendship.

 “Passion,” Thompson has said, “can be found in every day life. The life of the woman doing laundry, taking care of toddlers in sweatpants all day, can be as charged with passion as the woman having affairs with tycoons. People don’t understand that -- the incredible theatricality and passion that can be in everyday life.”

 For tickets or information, contact the HJT Box Office at 527-5180 from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. weekdays. Perfect Pie will be presented at 8 p.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 12), Thursday (Nov. 13), Friday (Nov.14) and Saturday (Nov. 15); and 2 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 15) and Sunday (Nov. 16).
