Whitman professor and students calculate height of Palouse Falls

In August, Bob Carson, Grace Farnsworth Phillips Professor of Geology and Environmental Studies, and several of his students took on the task of measuring the height of Palouse Falls.
Carson regularly takes students on field trips to the falls, which are rich in geological history. So when Rich Landers, outdoor reporter for the Spokesman-Review, asked for help in writing about the actual height of the falls, Carson led a fact-finding mission in search of a definitive answer. The elite group used “climbing gear, surveying equipment and intellectual curiosity” to determine the height, according to the article by Landers.
