Nathan "nato" Shiu graduated from Whitman College in 2005 with a degree in Music Composition.  Since then, he has written music for several Whitman Theatre productions, including "Venecia" by Jorge Accame, Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night", “The Merchant of Venice”, and "A Midsummer Night's Dream", “A Long Christmas Ride Home” by Paula Vogel, and an adaptation of “Around the World in 80 Days”.  In addition to writing music for Harper Joy Theatre Nathan has also sung several roles in various stage productions—most notably, Ferrando in "Così fan tutte" by Mozart, the Waiter in “She Loves Me”, and Fenton in “The Merry Wives of Windsor” by Otto Nikolai.

Nathan started work as Staff Accompanist for Whitman College's Music Department right out of graduation in 2005.  Outside of his regular accompanying responsibilities he has also accompanied several student run projects—a musical revue of Jason Robert Brown's "The Last Five Years", “La Serva Padrona” by Pergolesi, and Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” to name a few.

Other than working with Whitman, Nathan likes to stay connected to the community by playing for several productions at the Little Theatre of Walla Walla, as well as working for Summer Dance Lab.

He started teaching Voice for Whitman College in 2010.
