Rachel Chacko, Assistant Professor of Music at Whitman College, teaches courses in music history and flute performance. A recipient of the nationally awarded Jacob K. Javits Fellowship, she earned both a PhD and DMA from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She also received a postgraduate diploma in flute performance from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England.
Her research interests are focused on cross-cultural interactions in twentieth- and twenty-first-century music. She has presented her work at national and regional meetings of the Society for American Music, the Society for Music Theory, and the College Music Society. She is currently working on a book project on the transcultural music of American composer Lou Harrison.
Prior to coming to Walla Walla she taught at Vassar College.
