  • Your Health Center has 12 infirmary beds for 24-hour in-house care with a highly qualified nursing staff. You are welcome to use our facility for rest and restoration as well as acute illness. ALL full-time Whitman students are eligible for this service regardless of their insurance coverage.
  • A physician is available for examination and consultation, Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 9:45 a.m. There is no cost for this service for full-time students.
  • Prescriptions may be filled and delivered to the Health Center from a local pharmacy. Certain prescriptions may be available from the Health Center at a nominal cost. We also stock a few over-the-counter medications for resale. These may be charged to your student account.
  • We perform some laboratory tests such as strep, mono, urinalysis, and pregnancy tests here at the Health Center at nominal cost.
  • Allergy antigens are administered per private MD's orders at a nominal cost. Such injections are available only during regularly scheduled physician hours.
  • Crutches are available for loan at no cost. A deposit will be charged to your student account and removed when the item is returned.
  • We provide whirlpool and ultrasound treatments for post-injury care.
  • Our staff will assist you in obtaining referrals outside the Health Center to reliable and competent community professionals in the area of specialty requested. (All charges incurred at outside facilities are the responsibility of the student.)
  • Transportation to outside health resources may be provided by previous arrangement. Available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon and 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
  • Physical examinations required by outside facilities (overseas study, Peace Corps, grad schools, etc.) are done by appointment and at a nominal cost. Varsity physical exams are coordinated with the Athletic Department.
  • Our staff will offer assistance in obtaining specialized women's health care through various community resources.
  • Body Composition Analysis is available at a nominal cost. Individual or group nutritional counseling and weight management programs will be provided as needed and requested.
  • We provide free, anonymous HIV tests.
  • Sexual assault exams can be performed at the Health Center or our staff will assist you in obtaining this care at an outside facility if you choose.
  • Postcoital contraception (Morning After Treatment) is dispensed at a nominal cost.
  • Condoms are available free.
  • Limited number of free STD tests (chlamydia/gonorrhea)are available.
  • Women’s Clinic provided by Ellen Collette, ARNP by appointment.
  • Physical therapy and massage therapy are available at the Health Center by appointment.
  • Diet consultations are available to students at the Health Center by a Registered Dietician – call for an appointment.
  • Our Administrative Assistant will be happy to assist you with insurance claims processing and benefit coordination.
  • There is a study area and resource mini-library available with health education materials.
  • There are opportunities for interested students to be involved as health-care aides or through our organized student health group, WISH.
  • A variety of health education programs may be arranged for individual groups in campus facilities or in the Health Center.
  • A meeting room is available for small health-related groups or meetings.

For security reasons, the Health Center doors are locked from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Access to service obtained by ringing the doorbell.

Inpatient visiting hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and are at the discretion of nurse on duty.�
