The college has a hard-waiver policy which requires all students to be covered by accident and illness insurance. Information regarding private insurance must be updated each academic year by returning the Insurance Enrollment/Waiver form to the Health Center on or before August 1. If a student does not have private health insurance, Whitman offers a contracted health insurance policy through Wells-Fargo insurance company.

If a student has private insurance, it is important for parents or guardian(s) to provide their student with an insurance ID card and to educate their student regarding the provisions, coverage, preferred points of service, deductibles, and any particular requirements for insured health care access prior to coming to Whitman College.

If no private coverage is indicated on the form or if the form is not returned to the Health Center, it will be understood the student will purchase the basic Student Group policy provided by Whitman College and the student's account will be billed accordingly. Basic information regarding cost of coverage and billing may be found on the Insurance Enrollment/ Waiver form that is mailed to all incoming first year students. Full information regarding the policy may be found in the Student Health Insurance Brochure and the Student Health Insurance Claim Process.

Every year, a few students have not been allowed to register or have been billed for unnecessary insurance because they did not submit the required forms and thus experienced needless frustration. Please mail in all the necessary forms as soon as possible.

If you have questions or need additional information you may call the Health Center at 509-527-5281.
