Study Abroad

…In French!

Students taking French courses – whether majors, minors or simply motivated fans of the language – are all encouraged to study abroad for either one or two semesters during their third year.

In the recent past, Whitman students have most frequently participated in the following Whitman-affiliated programs:

Students attending affiliated programs are considered to be enrolled in a Whitman off-campus program and are therefore eligible to use their Whitman need-based aid and merit scholarships and when they attend these programs.

Students have also studied in the context of Whitman-approved programs:

Whitman College maintains a list of approved study abroad programs – programs that have been reviewed by the College's International Studies Planning Committee for approved for transfer credit. Students attending approved study abroad programs are not considered to be enrolled at Whitman while abroad and therefore are not eligible to use Whitman need-based aid and merit scholarships while attending these programs.

Further "approved" options include programs in Cameroon (Dschang and Yaoundé), France (Aix-en-Provence, Besançon, Dijon, Montpellier, Paris, Rennes, Strasbourg, Toulouse and Tours), Madagascar (Antananarivo, Fort Dauphin), Mali (Bamako), Senegal (Dakar and Saint Louis), and Switzerland (Geneva and Nyon).

More adventuresome students might explore further possibilities in other Francophone countries, like… Canada!
