WHITMAN COLLEGE
2009 - 20010
SCHOLARSHIP IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
The information is directed to those students who:
A. Have need-based financial aid and who are not receiving a President's Scholarship (for theatre, art, academics or debate), a Paul Garrett Scholarship for Men, Claire Sherwood Scholarship for Women or an International Student Scholarship;
B. Or, are not receiving any scholarship from us currently (Unless it is scholarship improvement.)
If you are only receiving merit scholarship you cannot apply.
Each year, a Committee, comprised of faculty, staff and at least one student evaluate applications from students who meet the above criteria for possible small increases in scholarship aid.
Applicants for scholarship improvement are judged on the strength of the student's academic performance, extra curricular activities and a faculty recommendation. If you are approved to receive scholarship improvement, the money is awarded for the 2008-2009 academic year, and the College expects to renew the improvement for each year you are enrolled. Historically, awards have ranged from $200 - $1500.
Your application credentials should include your own application and one recommendation on the form provided. You are responsible to see that both parts of the application, including the recommendation, reach the Office of Financial Aid Services in Penrose House by February 22nd. Late applications will not be considered for Scholarship Improvement.
The application form is on our web page starting in January. You have two options; you may complete and submit the form on-line, or you may download the PDF form, fill out and return the application page to the Office of Financial Aid Services and give the recommendation form to a professor.
