General Information

Whitman College is committed to providing the opportunity for students to receive an outstanding liberal arts education.  Through a rigorous academic program and out-of-class opportunities, the College will challenge students and give them a foundation upon which they can continue to build and expand throughout their lifetimes.

Students are admitted to the College on the basis of their prior academic accomplishments, class rigor, extra curricular activities and writing ability, without regard to their ability to pay.  While Whitman does maintain a merit-based scholarship program, the majority of institutional scholarship funds are offered to students on the basis of need.

The Office of Financial Aid Services will administer more than $25,000,000 in financial aid in 2007-08 which includes institutional scholarship funds, state and federal grants, student loans and federal, state and instutitional employment.
