Support for women of any nationality entering doctoral programs in areas of science or engineering closely related to aerospace-related science or engineering. Recent awardees have pursued aerospace studies from disciplines including chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and geophysics. American Association Of University Women — International Fellowship
Awarded for full-time graduate or postgraduate study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Supplemental grants support community-based projects in the fellow's home country. Graduating senior or alum (November deadline).
Bayliss Broadcast Foundation — Radio Scholarship
Awards to students majoring in broadcast communications with an extensive history of radio-related activities. Juniors and seniors; no mention of citizenship requirements on foundation website (April deadline).
Carnegie Endowment For International Peace — Junior Fellows Program: Awards graduating seniors year-long junior fellowships that are “the foundation for an international affairs career.” Fellows spend one year at the endowment in Washington, D.C., where they serve as research associates and are paired with mentors to work on a variety of international affairs projects. Senior of any nationality (December deadline).
Charnon Memorial Scholarship
Helps students afford high quality undergraduate education in their chosen fields of study. Awards $1,500 scholarships to students who have demonstrated a commitment to building communities. Available to foreign students attending college in the United States. Recipients may re-apply each year for up to four years, provided they continue to meet the requirements of the award.

Daad International
In some cases, international students enrolled at U.S. universities may be eligible for DAAD programs. In general, foreign nationals are eligible if they are attending a U.S. institution for undergrad degree. Applications in all fields are accepted with the exception of dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine. To inquire further about eligibility, send Daad International an email with your citizenship, current level of study, and the name of the Daad program in which you are interested.
Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund
Grants to students actively working for peace and for social and economic justice. Awarded to those who are part of progressive movement on campus and in the community. Undergraduates of any nationality enrolled in accredited U.S. institution. Coursework during the grant period may be abroad (March deadline).
Echoing Green Fellowship
Foundation awards two-year fellowships to “emerging social innovators.” The fellowships allow “individuals with innovative ideas for creating new models for tackling seemingly unsolvable social challenges” to test these ideas. Foundation also provides guidance and a range of support during fellowship tenure. Project proposal — from up to two applicants — must involve creating a “sustainable” organization geared to social change. Graduating senior or alum of any nationality may apply so long as they will not be in a degree program during the two-year funded project (see website for current application deadline).
Explorers Club — Youth Activity Fund Grants
Funds short term field research in natural sciences under the supervision of a qualified scientist/institution. Undergraduate of any year or nationality (December deadline).
George Mason University — Institute for Humane Studies
Tuition scholarships for study in the U.S. or abroad. Supports the work of outstanding students interested in exploring through their academic work the principles, practices, and institutions necessary to a free society. Previous award winners from fields as diverse as economics, history, law, literature, philosophy, and political science. Juniors, seniors, or graduate students in any discipline, and of any nationality (December deadline).
Huntington Public Service Award
$10,000 award to pursue a public service project anywhere in the world. Project may be undertaken by student alone or by working through an established organization. Graduating senior of any nationality (January deadline).
Jack Kent Cooke
Supports applicants from around the world for up to six years of study toward an advanced degree in any discipline, academic or professional. Funds lots of master’s degrees. Emphasizes academics plus public service. No age or nationality restrictions. Senior or “recent” alum (graduated up to 5 years prior to competition) (April deadline).
Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship
Fellowship for advanced study of fine arts in music in the U.S. or abroad. Preference to candidates under 25. Graduating senior or alum of any nationality (December deadline).
Klausman Women in Business Scholarship
Award to outstanding female students pursuing business degrees. Sophomores or juniors of any nationality (March deadline).
Knowles Science Teaching Foundation Fellowships: Intended to attract individuals with strong mathematics or science backgrounds into the teaching profession. Fellows are young women and men who have received a bachelor's or advanced degree in science, engineering or mathematics and are committed to teaching high school science and/or mathematics in U.S. schools. The fellowship supports them professionally and financially for up to five years through a teacher preparation program to eligibility for tenure. Individuals with no formal education coursework or experience in teaching are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be within five years of their most recent degree in science, engineering or mathematics. U.S. citizenship is not required but applicant but must be committed to teaching in U.S. high schools (January deadline).
Reynolds Foundation Fellowship in Social Entrepreneurship: seeks to prepare individuals for national leadership positions that bring the real-world insights of management and entrepreneurship to bear on social problems. Candidates will have a demonstrated interest in social entrepreneurship and be applying for a master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, the Harvard School of Public Health, or the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. Fellows must be admitted to their programs in order to take up the Fellowship. This fellowship includes full tuition for a degree program at one of these three Harvard public service schools. Program includes opportunities to meet with educators, public policy makers, and public health professionals. In addition, Reynolds Fellows receive a stipend of approx. $21,000. Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships
Provides all necessary support for a year of study at an overseas university in any academic field. Three-month awards permit development of language fluency, while academic-year awards allow study in depth. Public speaking ability and some record of social service. To foster international understanding, applicant is expected to speak at local rotary club meetings. Applicants of any nationality except for those from “non-rotary countries” (Bhutan, China, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Kiribati, Kuwait, Laos, Libya, Maldives, marshal islands, Myanmar, Nauru, north Korea, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Syria, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen) are eligible to apply. Junior year for study in the fall after graduation: apply a year before scholarship begins (July deadline).
Seaspace Scholarships
Supports marine-related study for undergrad students entering their junior or senior year (25% of awards), and grad students with financial need. Scholars’ majors have included marine sciences, marine biology, wildlife and fisheries, environmental toxicology, biological oceanography, genetics, ocean engineering, aquaculture and zoology with marine mammal applications. United States citizenship is not a requirement (February deadline).
Smithsonian Fellowships
The Smithsonian funds a variety of fellowships and internships in the arts, humanities and sciences, as well as in museum studies and library science. Unless noted otherwise, Smithsonian fellowship opportunities are open to non-U.S. citizens (deadlines vary).
Smithsonian Environmental Research Center's (SERC) Internship
Offers undergraduate and beginning graduate students a unique opportunity to gain exposure and experience in a research environment. The program enables students to work on specific projects under the direction of the Center's professional staff and is tailored to provide the maximum educational benefit to each participant. Society of Women Engineers

Wellesley College — Shackford Medical Fellowship: Funds the study of medicine “with a view to general practice, not psychiatry.” This fellowship is for “women graduates of any American institution.” Graduating seniors or alums of any nationality applying to medical school (December deadline).
Worldstudio AIGA Scholarship: Funds study for minorities and students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in . . . film/theatre design (costume, set, lighting), fine arts, graphic design, film/video direction or cinematography, . . . and photography. Asian Development Bank –Government of Japan Scholarship Program:
Support for one year that may be renewable for a second year — primarily for master’s study — in programs related to economic development. Student must be an alum under 35, who has graduated at least two years prior to application, and be from an “ADB member country.” Member countries at present: Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Cook Islands, Fiji islands, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, Pakistan, Republic of Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Sir Lank, Taipei, Tajikistan. Must apply to an approved field of study at a member institution. These include: business administration, computer science/technology, environmental studies/management, engineering, gender and development studies, international studies, public policy, sociology. Canon Collins Educational Trust for Southern Africa (CCETSA): Full scholarships for nationals from Southern African countries who wish to pursue a “postgraduate degree” — normally a one year master’s degree in either in the U.K. or Southern African. The following scholarships are open only to South African nationals: Richard Turner scholarship, Mamphela Ramphele/Chevening scholarship, and Nelson Mandela scholarship. The Chevening/CCETSA scholarship is open only to Zimbabwean nationals. Ford Foundation, International Fellowships Program (IFP)
Fellowships target exceptional individuals, with academic talent and community leadership experience, from marginalized populations in developing nations. Fellows are drawn from social groups outside metropolitan centers that historically have had limited access to higher education. Supports graduate degrees directly enhancing professional knowledge, career skills, and leadership capacity in fields that address critical issues of common concern to the Asia Pacific region and U.S. Applicants must be resident nationals or residents of an eligible IFP country or territory. Currently, these are: Brazil, Chile, China, Egypt, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Mozambique, Nigeria, Palestinian Territories, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, and Vietnam. IFP selects Fellows on the strength of their clearly stated intention to serve their communities and countries of origin, and expects that they will honor this obligation.
