Award summary and benefits: The fellowship offers students an opportunity to experience the Canadian culture, study at world-class research opportunities, and transfer credits that are part of their degree requirements in their programs at their home institutions. Benefits include:
A limited amount of funds are available on a competitive, need-determined basis to students from private universities to help offset tuition differentials.
Applicants to the open competition may be students currently enrolled at any degree granting institution in the United States (including the participating universities) and be applying to any degree granting institution (including the participating colleges and universities) in Canada. Applicants are responsible for applying to three Canadian universities. Be aware that those application deadlines may precede the Killam deadline.

Note: In addition the Fellowships and Grants Office will require proof that the “Off-Campus Study Leave” application (http://www.whitman.edu/contents/ocs) has been filed with the Off Campus Study Office by the internal deadline.
All applications will be thoroughly reviewed and the applicants ranked by an independent adjudication committee comprised of faculty members from participating universities and senior officials from the Foundation. The committee will rank all candidates based on their proposed program of study, their personal statement, their record of academic achievement, and their letters of reference. The committee will produce a list of recommended candidates, which will include alternates. This list will form the basis for all award decisions.
