The Jan. 28 Celebration of the life of George Ball was video recorded. That video will be posted on this web site in early February. In the meantime, please see this video tribute prepared by the college.
Also available now are the texts of some of the speakers’ comments. Others will be posted as we receive them.
On Jan. 1, 2012, our colleague and dear friend, Dr. George Ball, passed away at the age of 96. He has served Whitman College as a professor of religion and mentor to students since 1960. An anchor on campus and in our community, George was a standard-bearer for ethics and justice, a beloved and exceptional teacher of and adviser to generations of Whitman students, and an extraordinarily decent and caring person.

Someone will depend upon the care with which all our work is done.
Someone will need the kindness with which all our words could be spoken.
Someone will be fulfilled by the love which all our acts might manifest.
— George Ball, Commencement, May 21, 1978
