Marie Metheny, Counselor

Marie has been a counselor at Whitman since 2002. She earned her BA in Women's Studies and Counseling from San Francisco State University and her master's in clinical psychology from New College of California, San Francisco. Her interest and focus as a counselor at Whitman is in object relations, self-psychology and depth-oriented brief therapy. She is also advisor for the Peer Counseling Program.

Tracee L. Anderson, Counselor

Tracee has been a counselor at Whitman since 1991. She earned her master's degree in social welfare from UCLA. In addition to counseling students individually, she conducts workshops and assists with Residence Life staff training.

Sharon Kaufman-Osborn, Counselor

Sharon has been a counselor at Whitman since 1984. After graduation from Oberlin College with a BA in psychology, Sharon earned her master's degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to working with students individually, she leads workshops on sexuality issues, relationships, communication and self-nurturing. She is also advisor of Shalom, the Jewish student group at Whitman.

Richard Jacks, Director of Counseling Associate Dean of Students: Health and Wellness

Rich has been at Whitman since 1979. He is also an associate professor of psychology and the faculty representative for the ski team. He received his PhD in counseling psychology from Stanford in 1972.

Karen Webb, Administrative Assistant

Karen joined the Counseling Center in July, 2003. She earned her AA in secretarial science from Walla Walla Community College. She assists students with appointment scheduling.

Adam Kirtley, Stuart Coordinator of Religious and Spiritual Life

Adam joined the Counseling Center staff in September, 2006. He received his BA in religion from Wabash College, and earned a Master of Divinity degree from Emory University. In addition to addressing the spiritual needs of students, Adam works to facilitate religious life and promote religious diversity on campus. Adam is an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) tradition.

Deborah Wiese, Counselor

Deborah has been a counselor at Whitman since 2005. After receiving her master's in counseling from Indiana University - Bloomington, she went on to earn a doctorate in counseling psychology with an emphasis on multicultural issues from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Her experience includes immigrant and international issues, LGBT issues, and racism and discrimination. She works from a strength-based model, identifying resources and focusing on interpersonal relationships to help individuals grow. In addition to counseling, she is also a psychology professor at Whitman.
