Marie Metheny, Counselor

Marie has been a counselor at Whitman since 2002. She earned her BA in Women's Studies and Counseling from San Francisco State University and her master's in clinical psychology from New College of California, San Francisco. Her interest and focus as a counselor at Whitman is in object relations, self-psychology and depth-oriented brief therapy. She is also advisor for the Peer Counseling Program.

Tracee L. Anderson, Counselor

Tracee has been a counselor at Whitman since 1991. She earned her master's degree in social welfare from UCLA. In addition to counseling students individually, she conducts workshops and assists with Residence Life staff training.

Sharon Kaufman-Osborn, Counselor

Sharon has been a counselor at Whitman since 1984. After graduation from Oberlin College with a BA in psychology, Sharon earned her master's degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to working with students individually, she leads workshops on sexuality issues, relationships, communication and self-nurturing. She is also advisor of Shalom, the Jewish student group at Whitman.

Richard Jacks, Director of Counseling Associate Dean of Students: Health and Wellness

Rich has been at Whitman since 1979. He is also an associate professor of psychology and the faculty representative for the ski team. He received his PhD in counseling psychology from Stanford in 1972.

Pavel Blagov, Counselor

Pavel received a PhD in clinical psychology from Emory University and joined the Whitman faculty in 2009 as an Assistant Professor of Psychology. He treats adjustment problems, mood and anxiety disorders, and difficulties with self-esteem, identity, and relationships. He integrates dynamic-interpersonal and cognitive-behavioral approaches with emphasis on personal enrichment through insight, problem solving, and emotion regulation. Pavel has experience in issues related to masculinity, cultural diversity, sexual orientation, and chronic physical and mental illness. He will be available two hours per week to see students in the Counseling Center.
