This year the Community Service Special Project is service trips. Our Special Projects intern Kelsie Butts will be coordinating four service trips during Spring Break.
What are Spring Break Service Trips?
-

Spring Break Service Trips are a chance for a group of Whitman students to focus on community service together. This year Whitman Community Service will be coordinating four Spring Break Service Trips, focusing on four different issues. When coordinating our service trips, we utilize the wisdom and best practices recommended by Break Away, the national organization that helps colleges plan quality service trips. You can learn more about Break Away here: www.alternativebreaks.org. All Spring Break Service trips are funded by students through participant fees. We hope to make the trips affordable by assisting you in planning successful fundraisers. If you are interested in participating in a Spring Break Service Trip, please apply by clicking on the link below!

- Not interested in the issues we're focusing on in the Service Trips we're coordinating? You might like to go on a Volunteer Vacation instead. Volunteer Vacations are a chance for students to participate in a volunteer activity during break with an established organization. Students participating in Volunteer Vacations usually register to participate as an individual and they often have the opportunity to work with a variety of individuals of different ages and backgrounds. Many Volunteer Vacations are with agencies that do work outside of the United States. All Volunteer Vacations are funded by participants though scholarships are sometimes available through the host organization. When we learn about possible Volunteer Vacation opportunities, we make this information available on our website and often via our listservs. However, we do not screen the agencies ourselves, so we encourage you to do your own research and find an organization that's a good fit for you.
