Volunteer in Walla Walla Over the Summer!

 

For those students who are staying in Walla Walla over the summer, we have collected a variety of volunteer projects to be involved with! We encourage you to contact the community partner if you are intersted in learning more about their opportunity. Don't see something that fits your interests?   • Kirkman House Museum 
    • The Kirkman House Museum is looking for volunteers to help with Collections Management, Tour Guides, and maintenance projects. Times and dates are flexible and dependent upon the volunteer's schedules

  • Whitman College Cognitive Psychology Lab
    • The Cognitive Psychology lab is seeking volunteers between the ages of 18-30 to participate in an one-hour research session involving language, thinking, and memory
    • Times and dates are flexible and volunteers will receive a small honorarium for participating

  • The Children's Home Society
    • CHS is looking for students to volunteer at their Summer Recreational Program. This program starts June 11th and runs until August 10th. Volunteers are needed most during the hour of 10:30-11:30am to work with children during their reading time. Note, that it is important that volunteers commit for the entire program length, volunteering at least once a week.

  • Senior Round Table
    • The Senior Round Table is looking for volunteers to be Meals-on-Wheels Drivers. Volunteers are needed Monday-Friday (daily or part-time) from 10:30am-11:30am. Volunteers would need to provide their own vehicle and would be reimbursed .55 cents per mile and will be provided a free lunch.

  • Walla Walla Community Hospice
    • Hospice is looking for volunteers to help pull weeds in both their parking lot and around their building. This needs to be done 2-3 times a month.
    • Also, they are looking for volunteers to help put away medical supplies on an 'on-call' basis. The time commitment would be up to two hours a week.

  • Remple Nature Area at Fort Walla Walla
    • Fort Walla Walla is looking for volunteers to help with trail maintenance. Also, there are opportunities to help plan activities based on the volunteer's skill set.

  • Blue Mountain Action Council Adult Tutoring
    • BMAC is looking for volunteers to help with their Adult Literacy Program. Volunteers would be matched one-on-one with adults who need tutoring in basic education, ESL, GED prep, computer skills and any other goals they might have. Students will recieve training and orientation before volunteering.

    • The AmeriCorps team has a variety of volunteer opportunities for students to be a part of. Options include helping with:
      • Fort Walla Walla Days: celebration of our local heritage (June 9th)
      • Summer Daze pet adoption event for Blue Mt. Humane Society (June 16th)
      • Diversity Day community celebration at Pioneer Park (June 17th)
      • Care and Share Golf Tournament fundraiser for food banks (June 26th)
      • Walla Walla Special Olympics event for youth and handicapped individuals (TBA)
      • Walla Walla Farmer's Market (Sat & Sun starting May 5th-October 28th)
      • Blue Mt Humane Society adoptions (one Saturday a month)

  • Smart Business Partner Program- Sustainable Living Center
    • The Smart Business Partner Program is looking for a student help make phone calls for them

  • Whitman Mission National Historic Site
    • The Whitman Mission is in need of volunteers to complete a variety of summer work projects including:
      • Transcribe historic documents
      • Restore the character of a stream environment by eliminating invasive plants
      • Help support their visitor services by talking to park visitors about the history of the site
      • Help support the park access by cleaning up the parking site on Last Chance Road

    • The Water and Environmental Center at WWCC needs volunteers to help with:
      • Stream Restoration including invasive species removal and litter pickup

  • The Community Center for Youth
    • CCY believes that all kids matter! By investing in or youth today, we are investing in our community's tomorrow. We work to provide our Valley teens with an inspirational, safe and relationship-based environment by offering creative, educational and sports-oriented opportunities that connect youth to their unique and valued self, through positive rol modeling and acceptance.
    • CCY is looking for volunteers in a variety of ways:
      • CCY @ The Farmers Market. This year we will be going to the Market and selling Art Objects made by the kids. Also we will be informing the community what are mission is and how we need help. Volunteer hours include Saturday's from 8am-2pm and extra hours are need in the evening on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to help in making the art projects.
      • CCY Bike Shop on Main Street. We would love a bike enthusiast to work two days a week Tuesday and Thursday 5:30-7:30pm with another volunteer to repair bikes and help the kids learn how to as well.
      • Working in the CCY office. We need a volunteer who is self-direct to help in organizing paperwork and implementing new systems of attendance, donors and email.
      • CCY Marketing and Fundraising. We need volunteers to work on strategy, press releases, imputing data in new software systems and planning.
      • CCY Volunteer Staff. Need volnteers to help kids work on simple behavioral modification strategies.

  • Army Corps of Engineers: Mill Creek Dam and Bennington Lake
    • The Corps of Engineers needs volunteers to help with trail work, invasive species removal and littler pick up at Mill Creek Dam and Bennington Lake.

  • Walla Walla Community Harvest (a project of Blue Mountain Action Council)
    • BMAC is looking for volunteers to help with their new gleaning program. Volunteers can be involved in a variety of ways:
      • Volunteering to help harvest produces
      • Donate your excess produce
      • Planting an extra row in your garden to eventually donate
      • Educating people about the need in Walla Walla
      • volunteering in the Food Bank Garden
      • Tabling at the Farmer's Market.
