Alternative Gifts Market

In an Alternative Gift Market, shoppers dedicate their donations to their friends, family, and ultimately back to the world. With each purchase, participants receive an explanation of the cause and agency to which they are donating, as well as a free holiday card that they can give. Alternative gifts are on sale in Reid Campus Center from noon to 1:00pm November 16th - 20th and November 30th - December 4th.

This Year’s Gifts:

  • $2 - 1 tree to help reforest Dominican Republic or Haiti
  • $3 - 1 day care and food for an abandoned Chinese elder
  • $4 - 1 day boarding school tuition for a Kenyan orphan
  • $5 - 1 meal for a Whitman student on a Spring Break Service Trip
  • $6 - 1 pair of chicks for a Bolivian family's garden
  • $8 - 1 pipe to bring clean water to a school in India
  • $9 - 1 night's safe accommodation at Helpline's STEP Women's Shelter
  • $10 - 1 safe newborn kit for a Guatemalan mother and infant
