What’s a staff or faculty news brief? It’s a mention of the outstanding and meaningful work being done by the people of Whitman, work that reflects the excellence of the college. For example: authoring articles and books, conference presentations, serving on the board of a professional association or community organization, receiving honors and awards, community service and fundraising efforts and more. Jennifer McNeil, records and documents technologist in the Office of the Registrar, and her husband, Kevin, and son Brendin welcomed a baby girl into the family on Nov. 8. Raelyn Grace McNeil, 6 pounds, 8 ounces and 20 inches long, was born with a full head of brown “frosted” hair. Jennifer says, “We are both doing well and getting as much sleep as we can. That for me is a little harder with having to entertain Brendin, but he has been a great helper and big brother.”

Dance: Whitman Dance Theater presents “Lucid Moving,” a dance performance. 8 p.m., Cordiner Hall.

Harper Joy Theatre: “The Sea” by Edward Bond is set in an Edwardian coastal village, Willy Carson meets Rose, the girl to whom his drowned friend was engaged, and falls in love with her. Their romance is caught between the forces of order, in the form of a group of dotty society ladies, and chaos, personified by a mad draper anticipating an invasion of space aliens. MLK: In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the campus is hosting a series of events including community service projects and a candlelight march. For details click here.
