Duties:
Assigned to the Walla Walla High School Academic Lab, this position provides tutoring in the Academic Lab during 7th and 8th periods at Walla Walla High School.
The primary responsibilities assigned to the position include, but are not limited to:
- Actively mentor & engage students and build success oriented relationships
- Tutor students in academic subject areas and help them achieve academic success
- Communicate and model AVID expectations
- Promote AVID strategies of organization, planning, note-taking, inquiry and collaboration
- Reinforce rigor in learning, individual responsibility and improving writing, reading skills and study skills
- Become skilled in asking leveled questions
- Facilitate inquiry groups and guide students to higher level discussions
- Develop collaboration and inquiry skills in students
- Model academic excellence and encourage a positive learning environment
- Communicate regularly with teaching staff and GEAR UP coordinators to promote student growth
- Provide positive, consistent follow-up with students
- Support a focused, supportive learning environment
- Attend regular tutor trainings
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications
- Current college student or recently graduated
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Self-directed individual with a strong work ethic and ability to anticipate program needs and respond proactively
- Understanding and experience applying customer service practices
- Leadership experience
Desired Qualifications
- Can be relied upon to achieve excellent results with little need for oversight
- Ability to promote and inspire college readiness skills
- Work as part of a team and support the overall mission of the program
- Identify and advocate for changes necessary to better meet program needs
- Background and/or experience in educational instruction settings
- One-on-one and group tutoring experience
- Bilingual skills; written and verbal
