Summer Whitman Internship Grant (Stipend Award: $2,400)

The Whitman Internship Grant (WIG) provides funding for students to participate in unpaid summer internship experiences. To be eligible, internships must be completely unpaid (no room and/or board provided) and take place during the summer following the student’s freshman, sophomore or junior year. Students must have secured the internship prior to applying for funding. The internship must last at least 10 weeks; students are expected to work at least 20 hours per week. The due date for submitting WIG applications is 5:00 pm Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Drop your application in the Student Engagement Center (219 Reid Campus Center). This is a competitive program; each application will be reviewed primarily on the merit of the internship and the value of the experience in the context of the student’s academic or career goals.

Washington State Work Study Summer Program (See below for funding schedule)

Students who are Washington state residents and who receive work study funding are eligible to use this funding for summer internship experiences. Eligible students can use this funding as an incentive for companies and organizations to hire them over other applicants. In order to utilize this funding, students must secure internships prior to submitting applications. Companies and organizations must have funds available to pay the student salary in order to then be reimbursed according to the following funding schedule:

  • For-profit: 50% reimbursement

  • Whitman College/Other college or university: 65% reimbursement

  • Not-for-profit: 70% reimbursement

Rolling deadline, first come, first served. Applications are due to the Student Engagement Center.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until funding is exhausted.

There is also limited funding for academic year internship experiences. Please make an appointment with the Student Engagement Center staff to discuss academic year funding options.


 2012 Ben Rabinowitz Student Driven Project

Recipients of the award will recieve $2,500.

The Ben Rabinowitz Student Project Endowment is given in honor of former Whitman College President, Tom Cronin, to assist students with demonstrated leadership skills who wish to implement new projects or learning opportunities that promote compassion in medicine or politics and enrich the campus community.

The recipient will be required to present the outcome of their project either next semester or within one year of winning the award, whichever is most appropriate.

Deadline for applications in Monday, May 7, 2012.
