Job Title:         Visitor Center Sales and Information Specialist

Summary

The visitor center sales and information specialists will promote Tourism Walla Walla (TWW) partner businesses and services and the Walla Walla Valley as a tourist destination.  These specialists provide detailed information, sell performance tickets, and will have the ability to make hotel and restaurant reservations, with the ultimate goal of providing exceptional customer service to leisure and conference travelers at the downtown visitor information kiosk.  This position will use a variety of skills in a potentially fast-paced environment including but not limited to sales, customer service, personal interaction, moderate to heavy computer use, telephone skills, visitor packet assembly and mailing, visitor tracking, and partner business relations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sales and Service Duties

  • Be proactive in assisting visitors by welcoming them to Walla Walla.  Become an expert on answering the question "What is there to do in Walla Walla?" by keeping up with available resources on TWW partners
  • Effectively identify visitors' interests in order to make specific and appropriate recommendations and suggestions.  Properly and equally promote TWW partners as well as Walla Walla Valley activities to all customers when appropriate
  • Properly promote sales of tickets and other partner products and services (attractions, museums, tours, etc.)
  • Effectively manage TWW ticketing system to sell tickets
  • Count individual cash drawers at beginning and end of shift and be responsible for contents.  Deliver cash receipts to the on-duty supervisor for cash reconciliation and bank transaction preparation
  • Effectively promote the various services (visitor information, ticketing, reservations, restrooms, directions, etc.) to each customer that enters the downtown location in a professional and unbiased manner
  • Attend TWW events and activities as required

 Information Duties

  • Assist in managing the up-to-date information that coworkers and volunteers will require in their day-to-day interaction and promotions.
  • Communicate with TWW partners to manage and maintain lodging leads and event distribution emails.
  • Handle all unusual visitor requests to the best of your ability. Contact the on-duty supervisor or manager in the event any issue, problem or customer becomes difficult to handle properly
  • Actively participate in regularly scheduled training sessions and staff meetings
  • Assist co-workers and volunteers with any questions or issues when necessary
  • Complies with Company policies and procedures (dress code, performance, operations)
  • Any other duties as assigned by the visitor center operations manager

Inventory and Facilities Duties

  • Assist in preparing the downtown visitor information kiosk to open and close on time according to the hours of operation set and approved by the management team, following established procedures.
  • Neatly track, replenish and stock TWW brochures on the racks in the public areas and storage room so that customers will find their desired information with ease. Recommend when brochures should be reordered. 

Other Skills and Abilities:

Basic understanding of the mission of Tourism Walla Walla.  Basic business principles, knowledge of company policies and procedures.  Must have demonstrated experience with computers with knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and internet software programs. Ability to search for and retrieve information from the internet.  Requires excellent communication and people skills.

Education and/or Experience:

Must be 18 yrs. or older.  High School Diploma preferred.  Sales experience is helpful.  Must be  SuperHost® Fundaments Certified (will be provided if not current).
