Perkins Loans

A Federal Perkins loan is a low interest (5%) loan for students with exceptional financial need. The U.S. Department of Education provides half of the funding, as does Whitman College. Since this program is partially funded by the college, thereby making Whitman the lender, the Business Office oversees the implementation of the program, in conjunction with the Financial Aid Office.

Whitman has a contract with University Accounting Services (UAS) of Brookfield, Wisconsin, to provide billing services for our students with regard to their Perkins loans.

CURRENT STUDENTS: After you have accepted your Perkins loan on the Whitman College Financial Aid page in CLEo, you will be contacted by UAS via email in late August, asking you to electronically sign your Master Promissory Note (MPN) and/or approve the current year’s loan amount.

GRADUATES:  All payments, forms, address changes and correspondence can be directed to UAS at: University Accounting Service, P.O. Box 5291, Carol Stream, IL, 60197-5291

You may call UAS toll free at 1-800-999-6227 (menu option 4, then 0; ask for a Whitman College representative) or directly at 262-780-7578 (central time zone). You can also visit their user-friendly website at www.uaservice.com.

It is important for your credit rating that you remain in good standing with your student loans. If you are having trouble making payments on your Perkins loan, please call UAS to receive counsel with regard to your eligibility for deferment, forbearance, or loan consolidation.
