The Oversight Committee is in charge of all student body elections at Whitman College, including elections which adopt new policies. We work hard to reach out to the student body and give everyone a chance to participate fully. We put up posters and petitions and organize voting booths in the Reid Campus Center foyer. Oversight also works with the Business Office and WCTS to run fair, democratic elections. All election results are posted outside the ASWC office. Once the election is over, the Oversight Committee still has work to do. We train all Senators and swear them into office by the Senator Oath found in the by-laws. We teach the by-laws and the main points of Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised, 10th edition. We ensure that all Senate and Joint Session meetings run efficiently and effectively by following the rules that the Associated Students of Whitman College adopted.

The Oversight Committee is in charge of any investigations of complaints brought forth against any ASWC employee or elected official. As such, it is our job to really solicit feedback from the student body and check in with Senators to make sure that they are doing the same with their constituents. In this way, Oversight truly is the committee which reflects student concerns about the organization itself. Our first and foremost priority, however, is to serve as a final check on all actions that the student government takes. We are responsible for taking any complaints that any member of ASWC has against a salaried, appointed, or elected ASWC position. Should you have a complaint, please contact one of our members.

In addition to fielding complaints, the Oversight Committee is also responsible for overseeing all of ASWC's functions. We monitor the hiring processes, the budgeting process, appointments to College Committees, elections, and sit in on all Senate and House meetings to ensure that we are following our rules and by-laws.

The Oversight Committee conducts evaluations of all of ASWC employees — elected, appointed, and hired by ASWC — every semester to enable them to better perform their duties.

Members of the Oversight Committee are nominated and confirmed at a Joint Session. Once confirmed, they hold their position for the duration of their time at Whitman, unless they go abroad or resign.
