The ASWC Constitution provides the foundation for ASWC, its bylaws, and Bill of Rights.
To propose a change to the ASWC Constitution, please email your Policy Chair at aswc_policy@whitman.edu to discuss your proposal. The process to propose an Amendement has two routes:
1. "Any member of the Senate may propose an amendment, which must be reviewed by the ASWC Policy Committee and ratified by the Senate and the House by a 2/3 vote in order for it to appear on a ballot." (ASWC Constitution: Article VI, Section Two)
2. "Any member of ASWC may propose an amendment by a petition signed by 10% of the membership of ASWC." (ASWC Constitution: Article VI, Section Two)
If passed, at the next Executive Council election, the proposal must receive 2/3 vote of 20% of ASWC members to be amended.
Below is a list of the ASWC Constitutional proposals, when they were failed/passed, and a short summary. To read the document, please click on the link.
