Fall Visitors' Day

7:45 - 8:15 a.m. REGISTRATION. Complimentary breakfast. In order to attend a class, students must register at the Class Visits table in the Reid Campus Center Foyer. Registration continues in Penrose House, Office of Admission, after 9:15 a.m. Music provided by Jonas Myers, ’13.
8:15 - 8:50 a.m. WELCOME TO WHITMAN COLLEGE. George S. Bridges, President of Whitman College, and Tony Cabasco, Dean of Admission & Financial Aid, will remark on the “Whitman Experience” and provide schedule updates. Young Ballroom, Reid Campus Center.
9:00, 10:00, 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. CLASS VISITS. Whitman invites prospective students to join Whitties in the classroom. A list of class options is included in your packet. Students must register for a class at the Class Visits table during Registration in the Reid Campus Center Foyer or at Penrose House, Office of Admission, after 9:15 a.m.
9:00, 10:00, 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. CAMPUS TOURS. Take a walk through the Whitman College campus with a student guide. The first tour departs from Reid Campus Center at 9:00 a.m. The 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. tours will leave from the front steps of Penrose Library.
9:00 - 9:50 a.m. FACULTY PANEL ON SIGNATURE PROGRAMS. Join a panel of Whitman faculty as they provide an overview of the Whitman curriculum, the General Studies program, undergraduate research and experiential learning opportunities. Maxey Auditorium, Maxey Hall.
10:00 - 10:50 a.m. PANEL FOR PARENTS. Hear from Whitman’s Associate Dean of Students, Director of Academic Resources, and Residence Life staff about life at Whitman outside the classroom. Ask questions about living on campus, academic support, residence hall safety policies, and how Whitman works to cultivate a strong campus community. Maxey Auditorium, Maxey Hall.
11:00 - 11:50 a.m. CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMS. Staff from various departments will share about opportunities available to Whitman students. Choose from one of the following options:
 
  • Off-Campus Study:  Barbara Hoffman, Assistant Director of Off-Campus Studies, and current students will discuss Whitman’s wide array of international and domestic off-campus study programs. Room 130, Olin Hall.
  • Intercultural Center: Matt Ozuna, Intercultural Center Program Advisor, Intercultural Interns, and campus club leaders will host a panel on campus diversity initiatives and signature campus wide cultural programs. Glover Alston Center.
  • Student Engagement Center:  Susan Buchanan, Director of Career Development, Abby Juhasz, Community Service Coordinator, and current students will speak on internships and community service opportunities. Room G02, Reid Campus Center.
  • The Outdoor Program: Members of the Outdoor Program will present a slide show and discuss the outdoor recreational opportunities and resources sponsored by Whitman College. Kimball Auditorium, Hunter Conservatory.
  • Varsity Athletics, Club & Intramural Sports: Dean Snider, Athletics Director, the coaching staff, and student athletes will be available to discuss their programs and answer questions about athletics at Whitman. Main Gym, Sherwood Athletic Center.
11:30 - 12:50 p.m. HAVE LUNCH ON US!  Join us for a complimentary lunch in the Reid Campus Center. Please present the meal ticket you received at registration. One meal ticket per person. Music provided by student band, Humans Being.
1:00 - 2:20 p.m. INTERDISCIPLINARY ACADEMIC PROGRAMS. Faculty members and current students will present overviews and lead discussions on a sampling of Whitman’s special academic programs.

3:00 - 3:50 p.m.

STUDENT POINT OF VIEW & PERFORMANCE. Round out the day with a student panel offering personal perspectives on their Whitman experiences, and a closing performance by one of Whitman’s a cappella groups, Schwa. Maxey Auditorium, Maxey Hall.
