Visit Options
PERSONALIZE YOUR VISIT
At Whitman we strive to make each visit a personalized and purposeful experience. To simplify your planning, check out our Campus Visit Calendar. We are pleased to offer the following visit options to help you explore Whitman and discover if it is the right college for you. We encourage you to schedule your visit at least one week in advance to ensure you get the most from your visit to campus.
ON CAMPUS VISIT OPTIONS:
Take a walk through the Whitman College campus with a student guide. The tour includes a residence hall, academic buildings, our state of the art athletic and art facilities and the student campus center.
Summer hours (May - August): 1.5 hour tours at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm
Fall, Winter & Spring (September - April): 1 hour tours at 9:00 am, 11:00 am, and 2:30 pm
A member of the Admission Officer staff will discuss, in a group setting, the distinguishing features of a Whitman education and answer questions about admission and financial aid. Information sessions are one hour, and are directed towards students and families beginning the college search process.
Summer hours (May - August): 11:00 am and 3:00 pm
Fall, Winter & Spring (September - April): 1:30 pm
An additional Information Session will be available weekdays at 10:00 am from March 28 - April 22.
Interviews are an optional, but strongly recommended, part of the application process at Whitman College. You should regard an interview as a two-way dialog-it is as much a chance for you to learn more about the college as it is for the college to learn more about you. Priority for interviews will be given to high school seniors and transfer applicants. Interviews for first year applicants are available from May 1 through January 15 and until March 1 for transfer applicants.
* Students who are unable to interview on campus may interview with an admission officer in their area. To check for upcoming interviews in your area please visit Whitman on the Road.
Whitman, and its catering service Bon Appétit, get rave reviews for food services. We encourage prospective students to try it for themselves. Lunch hosted by a current student is available on any weekday when classes are in session.
High school juniors, seniors and transfer candidates are encouraged to attend up to two classes during their visit. We recommend that you attend our first year-seminar course, titled Encounters: Antiquity and Modernity, as well as another course in an area of interest.
Overnight Stays in the Residence Halls
High school juniors, seniors, and transfer candidates are welcome to spend the night with a current student in his or her residence hall room. You should plan to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel, and other personal items for your stay. Overnight stays are available Sunday through Thursday nights, during most of the academic year.
All students staying overnight must complete the overnight visit waiver and return it to the Office of Admission 3 days prior to visiting.
* Overnight visits must be booked two weeks in advance. During March and April, overnight visits are available only to high school seniors and transfer candidates.
Meeting with an Admission Officer
Meetings are reserved for students who have submitted an application for the upcoming academic year and are an informal conversation with an admission officer. Questions regarding financial aid can be addressed during these meetings. Parents are welcome to attend.
Saturday visits are offered throughout most of the academic year. The office is open from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. One hour Campus Tours are at 11:00 am, and Information Sessions are at 12:00 pm. Interviews are also available to high school seniors and transfer applicants.
