Clubs, Activities, and Jobs on Campus: Co-Captain of Men’s Varsity Swim Team, Admission Team Manager

Your typical day at Whitman:

Swimming, eating, learning, eating, learning, swimming, eating, studying, studying, studying. Life at Whitman has two qualities: it is excessively busy, and at the same time exceedingly satisfying. My time at Whitman has been some of the most content time of my life.

What has Whitman taught you outside of the classroom?

My Whitman experience has taught me that as smart as you are or as talented as you are, there are people out there just as talented as you, if not more so. It has been an extremely humbling experience, as well as an extremely gratifying one, as it has taught me that what truly sets someone apart is the value of the hard work they put into the things they love. In a single phrase, Whitman has taught me the importance of giving my all to absolutely everything I do.

What is your favorite place on campus?

The upstairs portion of the Reading Room in the library. It’s where I go both when I really need to buckle down and work, and also when I just need to unwind. It’s the same level of quiet as the rest of the room, but somehow feels so much more relaxed, which is something I value highly in a workspace.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

The power to stop time. There have been so many moments in my life that were so perfect, I couldn’t help but want to freeze everything still and hold onto them forever.
