Whitman Undergraduate Conference

The annual Whitman Undergraduate Conference celebrates the scholarship of Whitman students in an all-day event. Since the tradition began in the 1998-99 academic year, it has become a hallmark of the Whitman experience. Ours is one of only two such conferences in the nation, involving a single college's undergraduate students delivering the results of their own research projects and creative endeavors. To allow everyone to take part, classes are canceled for the day.

Team Scholars

Whitman’s tradition of student-faculty research, an essential element of the college’s educational experience, yields dozens of innovative collaborations between professors and their students every year. Often conference presentations and published works result from the collaborative research, some of which is covered by local and regional media.

Whitman Research Fellowships and Grants

Whitman research fellowships and grants provide students an opportunity to work in collaboration with their professors on professional research. Recent awards have funded studies of Scottish romanticism, security forces in Costa Rica, fine art digital printing, and politics in the Eurovision Song Contest. Other Whitman research grants have funded student-faculty collaboration including an econometric analysis of wine prices, new translation of texts by Immanuel Kant, and the cellular mechanisms of memory.

Whitman research grants are administered by the Office of Fellowships and Grants.
