Whitman's Brey Earns NWC Player of Week Honors for Volleyball

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Rosa Brey, one of the driving forces to a perfect start to the Whitman College volleyball season, has been named Northwest Conference Player of the Week for volleyball.

With Brey hitting a sizzling .500 with 46 kills and 17 block assists, Whitman rolled undefeated through last weekend's Las Vegas Blast tournament, winning 12 straight games, four matches and the team championship. Brey, a 5-foot-10 middle blocker, did not commit a single hitting error in two of her matches, and she was guilty of just one miscue in a third match. She and teammate Kristan Brown, a junior setter, were named to the all-tournament team, with Brown also taking home the Most Outstanding Player award.

In this week's first release of NWC statistics, Brey leads the conference in hitting percentage by a wide margin. She also ranks first in blocks and is tied for fifth in kills per game.

A junior captain, Brey was twice named NWC Player of the Week during her sophomore year. She capped last season by earning All-NWC Second Team honors, after earning Honorable Mention recognition in her first college season. She played her prep ball at Bozeman (Mont.) High School.

Whitman continues its non-conference schedule when it travels to Colorado College to play four more matches this Friday and Saturday.

The Missionaries open NWC play at home on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15, hosting George Fox and Pacific universities.
