Whitman's Kristan Brown Named NWC Volleyball Player of Week

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Whitman College volleyball setter Kristan Brown has been named Northwest Conference Player of the Week.

Brown, a junior, led Whitman to a pair of season-ending Northwest Conference sweeps last week. She handed out 44 assists in each of the three-game victories, averaging 14.7 assists per game in directing a Missionary offense that racked up a 108-64 advantage in kills. She also slammed seven of her own kills in just 12 attempts with two errors, good for a .417 hitting percentage.

On defense, Brown contributed 19 digs and five blocks to the victories over Whitworth and Lewis & Clark.

In her first starting season at setter, Brown ranked fourth in the NWC in assists, averaging 10.96 per game. In conference matches only, she averaged 11.29 assists per game. Among her Missionary teammates, Brown was second in digs this season, averaging 2.46 per game.

Under first-year coach Carolyn Papineau, Whitman finished 13-11 on the season, which included a 9-7 mark in the NWC. The Missionaries finished in a tie for fourth place in the final standings.
