WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Northwest Conference has named Kristen Berndt, a Whitman College junior from Manson, Wash., as its Offensive Player of the Week in women’s soccer.
Berndt, a forward, was honored after booting four goals and adding one assist last weekend as Whitman rolled to a pair of NWC victories. She leads the Missionaries in scoring this fall with nine goals and one assist. She ranks second in the conference in total goals and leads the NWC by a wide margin in shots per game.
"Kristen is a very unique player," Whitman coach Scott Shields said. "Her strength and determination are what make her so special. She really never seems to tire and only gets stronger as the game goes on."
Berndt scored Whitman’s first two goals, including the game winner, in last Saturday’s 4-1 win over Linfield. She sparked Sunday’s come-from-behind 4-3 overtime victory against Pacific, scoring two goals and assisting on a third.
An All-NWC First Team selection last fall as a sophomore, Berndt led Whitman in scoring in each of her first two seasons. She also was named to the NCAA Div. III All-West Region Second Team last fall. With four games left in her junior campaign, she has collected 28 goals and nine assists as a collegian.
Berndt is a graduate of Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie, Wash.
