Whitman's Berndt Nabs Second NWC Soccer Honor

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – For the second time in less than a month, the Northwest Conference has named Kristen Berndt, a Whitman College junior from Manson, Wash., as its Offensive Player of the Week in women’s soccer.

Berndt, a forward, was honored after booting three goals and adding two assists as Whitman finished its season last week with two NWC victories. After contributing two goals and an assist in a 4-3 overtime victory at Whitworth, Berndt had a hand in both scores as Whitman blanked Lewis & Clark 2-0 in its season finale. She headed home the first goal against Lewis & Clark and then assisted on the second goal.

Berndt helped Whitman finish its season on a high note. Losing just once in its final nine games, the Missionaries finished in fourth place in the NWC, just one victory out of third place.

Berndt earned her first NWC Player of the Week award on Oct. 23, after scoring four goals and one assist in two Whitman victories. For a news release about that award, click here.

Berndt led Whitman in scoring this season for the third time in three seasons, finishing with 12 goals and four assists. That represents the most goals and points scored by Whitman player in at least a decade. She led the Northwest Conference in shots and finished second in scoring.

In her three seasons, Berndt has a total of 31 goals and 12 assists. She was an All-NWC First Team selection last fall as a sophomore, and she was also named to the NCAA Div. III All-West Region Second Team. The all-conference and all-region teams for this season have to be announced.

Berndt is a graduate of Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie, Wash.
