WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Mariner Moose and pitchers Jake Woods and Sean Green will be along for the ride when the annual Seattle Mariners Caravan makes a stop at Whitman College on Thursday, Jan. 18.
A free autograph session, open to the general public, is set for 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Sherwood Center. Those attending the session receive a complimentary Mariners 2007 schedule poster, autographs, photos with the Mariner Moose, and the chance to win prizes.
Members of the Whitman community planning to attend the autograph session include baseball coach Casey Powell and his assistant coaches and players. Whitman opens its season Feb. 15-18 with four games in Arizona.
The caravan, which got underway Jan. 9 and continues through Jan. 26, is making stops throughout the Northwest. A number of current and former players, as well as team announcers and the Mariner Moose, are participating at various stops. In addition to public autograph sessions, the tour includes school assemblies and visits to hospitals.
Woods, 25, a 6-foot-1 lefty from Bakersfield, Calif., excelled as Seattle’s long reliever last season before he was inserted into the starting rotation in August. He won four games after the move, including a Sept. 21 victory over the Chicago White Sox in which he struck out four and walked none. On the season, he appeared in 37 games, including eight starts, and threw 105 innings with a 4.20 earned run average.
Green, 27, a 6-foot-6 right-handed reliever from Louisville, Ky., made his Major League debut last May. He appeared in 24 games, throwing 32 innings with a 4.50 earned run average.
