Whitman Trio Make All-Tourney Team at UPS Volleyball Invitational

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Senior Kate Borsato, junior Lydia Hayes and sophomore Rosa Brey earned spots on the all-tournament team at the conclusion of last weekend's University of Puget Volleyball Invitational in Tacoma, Wash. Borsato and Hayes also made the all-tourney team at last year's Puget Sound Invitational.

Seeing its first action of the season, Whitman won three of four matches and finished in a tie with Puget Sound, the host team, for the best tournament record at 3-1. Whitman lost to Puget Sound in four close games, while the Loggers suffered their only loss to the State University of New York (SUNY)-Brockport.

Borsato, a Missionary team captain, was the setter in three of Whitman's matches, amassing 123 assists over 12 games. She had 49 assists in a hard-fought, four-game victory over Pacific Lutheran. She also served 10 aces in four matches, half of that that total coming against Pacific Lutheran.

Hayes, a junior outside hitter, averaged 4.44 kills and 4.94 digs in the four matches. She had 23 kills and 25 digs in the Puget Sound match.

Brey, a sophomore middle blocker, was a force at the net with a hand in 20 blocks. She also averaged 3.0 kills and 2.0 digs. She slammed 16 kills, hit .364 and had eight blocks in the SUNY-Brockport match.

Whitman returns to tournament action this Friday and Saturday, traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio, to play in the Mount St. Joseph Invitational.
