WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- After pacing the Whitman College women's tennis team to a pair of road victories last weekend, Katie Collier has been named Northwest Conference Player of the Week for women's tennis.
Collier, a junior from Issaquah, Wash., won twice at No. 2 singles as Whitman won matches at Willamette on Saturday and at Lewis & Clark on Sunday. She also teamed with senior Trish Hayward for an 8-2 victory in No. 2 doubles against Lewis & Clark.
Collier was one of two Whitman athletes honored when NWC Player of the Week awards were announced Monday night. Robbie Munday, a junior on the Whitman men's squad, is Player of the Week for men's tennis.
By winning twice on the weekend, and adding a third victory over George Fox on Monday, the Whitman women improved to 6-3 in the NWC and to an even 6-6 on the season.
Whitman leaves this weekend for a Spring Break trip to Hawaii, where they will play four matches. The first match is Monday, March 20, against Chaminada, an NCAA Div. II school.
