WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Erik Kofler, a Whitman College senior from Walla Walla, Wash., has been named Northwest Conference men's basketball Player of the Week.
Kofler, a 6-foot-8 center, scored 41 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and swatted four blocked shots as Whitman split a pair of games last weekend in its annual Wildhorse Resort Classic.
Kofler had his best game in Saturday's 98-93 victory over previously undefeated Concordia University. He scored a career-high 28 points against Cavaliers while snaring 13 rebounds. He also had four blocks and two steals in that game.
With Whitman off to a 2-1 start, Kofler is leading the Missionaries in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots, averaging 20.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. He ranks second in the Northwest Conference in rebounding and blocks and third in scoring.
A year ago, Kofler was named NWC Player of the Week in early December. He won that award after scoring 59 points and grabbing 39 rebounds in three games.
Whitman plays its first two NWC games this weekend in western Oregon. The Missionaries are at Linfield on Friday and George Fox on Saturday. Whitman then returns to non-conference play for the next month.
