Whitman First Baseman Earns
All-NWC Honorable Mention

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - J.D. Fischer, a senior first baseman who started 105 of 106 games over the past three years, has earned All-Northwest Conference Honorable Mention recognition this spring.

In 24 NWC games, Fischer hit .242 to lead a young Whitman team in hitting. As the only senior (or junior) position player on the active roster, he also topped the team in doubles, runs batted in, runs scored, and total bases.

During the NWC season, Fischer ripped home runs against Linfield and Willamette.

A year ago as a junior, Fischer hit .292 while topping Whitman in home runs, doubles, runs batted in, total bases, and slugging percentage. He was one of 11 players named to the Academic All-District First Team in the College Division of District VIII. The district includes all NAIA and NCAA Div. II and Div. III schools in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, Hawaii, California, Utah, Nevada and Arizona, as well as British Columbia.

A graduate of Capital High School in Boise, Idaho, Fischer is majoring in biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology and will graduate later this month.
