Prior to the start of the tournament, in a vote of conference coaches, Pacific Lutheran was seeded No. 3, one spot in front of Whitman. The Missionaries entered the tourney with better records, but the Lutes got the higher seed based on a 6-3 early season victory over Whitman.

The Missionary duo was leading 4-1 when PLU's Amanda Anuraga suffered an ankle injury. Whitman also won at No. 3 doubles, where first-year sophomore and junior Jessica Antilla won 8-6. "Those were very good wins for Carissa and Jessica," Tate said.

Vizcaino, a two-time NWC Player of the Year, ended her collegiate with a victory when Anuraga defaulted at No. 1 singles. Vizcaino concluded her senior season with a 16-2 record in singles, including a 13-1 mark against NWC opponents.
