Whitman Men's Soccer Team Places Two on All-NWC First Team

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Jeff Waggoner and Tyler Chisholm, the offensive and defensive cornerstones of the Whitman College men's soccer team, have earned spots on the All-Northwest Conference First Team.

Waggoner and Chisholm, a pair of seniors from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, are among 13 players named to the first team. Waggoner is a graduate of Coeur d'Alene High School, while Chisholm graduated from nearby Lake City High School. In addition to high school soccer, both players competed with the Coeur d'Alene Sting club team.

Waggoner, a forward, led Whitman in scoring for a second consecutive season, combining six goals with four assists. One of his season highlights as a senior was scoring both Whitman goals in a 2-0 victory over the University of LaVerne.

Waggoner, who finished his collegiate career with 22 goals and 11 assists, earned all-conference honors in each of his final three seasons. He received second-team honors as a sophomore and was named to the first team as a junior. Last fall, Waggoner also was named to the NCAA Div. III Far West All-Region Third Team.

Chisholm, who anchored Whitman's defense the past three seasons, earned all-conference honors for a second straight season. He was named to the second team last season.

Chisholm, a senior captain, earned NWC Defensive Player of the Week honors early this season after the Missionary defense shut out Cascade College 5-0, preventing the Thunderbirds from taking any shots.

Chisholm and another of his teammates, senior defender Pat Flanagan (Snohomish, Wash.), were named this season to the Academic All-District for the College Division of District VIII. Both Chisholm and Flanagan are majoring in biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology, and both plan to attend medical school after graduating from Whitman.
