WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Whitman College sophomore Andy Knapp stayed steady as a rock on Tuesday, shooting even-par 72 to place second overall in the Northwest Conference men's championships at Tokatee Golf Course near Blue River, Ore.
Knapp, who shot a one-under 71 in Monday's second round, finished with a 36-hole total of 217. He finished just one-over par for the tournament.
Knapp was one of seven players who earned all-conference honors.
"This is possibly the best individual performance Whitman has ever had in the conference championships," Whitman coach Peter McClure said. "Andy has worked very hard over the past year and really elevated his game."
Pacific Lutheran junior Tyler Kalberg ran away with medalist honors, firing a seven-under-par total of 209. Pacific Lutheran also won the team title with a 36-hole total of 868 for its top four golfers.
Puget Sound was second with an 892 total. Linfield and Willamette tied for third place at 910, just five strokes ahead of fifth-place Whitman. It marked Whitman third consecutive fifth-place finish.
Junior Erik Scott and freshman Niels Larson both finished with 232 totals for Whitman. Larson shot a final round 75, one stroke better than Scott.
Adam Heyd, another Whitman junior, carded a 78 on Tuesday to finish at 235. Also playing for the Missionaries were sophomore Doug Whitfield, who finished at 245 after an 85 on Tuesday, and senior Joey Bristol, whose 247 total included an 80 on the last round.
