November 4, 1996: In the final regular season NAIA national coaches poll, the Whitman women's team settled into the No. 14 spot, just three points out of the No. 12 slot. The Whitman women had been ranked as high as No. 6 earlier in the season. A year ago, anchored by NAIA All-Americans Jessica Bissonnette and Kathleen Gibson, Whitman climbed as high as No. 2 in the national poll.

November 4, 1996: Using the final regular season rankings as its guide, the NAIA today awarded at-large berths to its national championships. Whitman College was of ten women's teams to receive an at-large berth to nationals, scheduled for Nov. 16 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. This will mark the fifth straight appearance at nationals for the Whitman women.
