Scott Shields, Whitman's head coach, pinpointed defense and depth as his team's season-long strong points.
Two of Whitman's most talented players, Molly Willis and Wendy Lilliedoll, anchored the middle of Whitman's defense. Willis made the All-Northwest Conference of Independent Colleges (NCIC) Team at season's end, after earning honorable mention recognition the previous season. Willis also was named to the National Soccer Coaches Assocation of America's West Region second team, and she received All-America Scholar-Athlete recognition from the NAIA.
Lilliedoll played collegiate soccer for the first time after sitting out her freshman year to concentrate on academics. "Wendy came to Whitman on an academic scholarship, and she didn't know last year if she would have time for soccer as well as her class work," Shields said. "This year she felt she could handle both, and she was a very strong player for us."
Other front-line defenders in 1995 included Joelle Rickard, Anne Fletcher, Linda Loman, and Erin Lawson.
The midfield featured returning starters Carole Skeeters, an honorable mention all-conference player the previous season, Leah Christenson, and Stephanie Palmer. New to the midfield unit was one of the team's more skilled first-year players, Kristen Ott.
Amy Burkoth, a forward, was Whitman's leading scorer for the second consecutive season in 1994. Sara Sakamoto also returned at forward, and Genie Huntemann had a solid season at goalkeeper.
Other returning players were Amy Zigler and Karen Valaas. Another top freshman on the roster was Melissa Jacob of Bellevue, WA.
