Why you should not be using Internet Explorer
More and more these days, sites are labeling themselves with things like "Best viewed in Firefox" (viewable at the bottom of this page). They do not always explain this, however.
The reason that we recommend viewing this site in Firefox is because the most widely used browser, Internet Explorer for Windows, does not conform to several web standards, or interprets similar design code in entirely different (and incorrect) ways.
For this site specifically, that means that IE's bug with text sizes renders normal and small as one size; one rather large size, for most people. In Firefox, or any other standards-compliant browser, there are actually multiple sizes of text used across the site, making browsing it much more pleasant.
There are numerous other web-standards which IE does not support (some of which are fortunately going to be fixed in IE 7), which really aren't worth outlining here (feel free to read this if you're really curious), but which impact the way the page displays in IE. Suffice it to say that this website, like most on the web, utilizes hacks and bugs in order to force IE to display things somewhat close to what they should look like.
And this is without mentioning the security holes in IE that make Firefox a very appealing browser in comparison.
Some people worry that switching to Firefox will break some of their favorite sites that are programmed specifically for IE. Fortunately for these people, Firefox has several useful extensions which allow you to automatically view some sites in IE, or even to view sites in IE in a Firefox tab.
Of course, the choice of which browser to use is entirely your own, but to experience this site exactly as it was meant to be experienced, please use Firefox. The site is entirely functional for IE users, but it simply doesn't look quite as good.
