POSITION DESCRIPTION

The site coordinator serves as a liaison between the tutoring site and the Whitman College America Reads/Counts internship program with direct communication with the America Reads/Counts program coordinator.  The site coordinator surveys the tutoring needs at their site and matches interns’ proposed work schedules with those needs. Every month the site coordinator signs off on the attendance sheet as proof that interns have worked the hours they have clocked in. At the end of every semester the site coordinator forwards an online tutor evaluation to host teachers and then submits completed evaluations to the program coordinator.  The site coordinator also monitors on site tutoring situations to ensure that all interns are working one to one or in small groups and not left alone with students or taking on other teacher responsibilities.  The site coordinator is a critical link to the success of this successful tutoring program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Respond to email every few hours.
• Reply to Whitman College program coordinator and interns’ request for information or scheduling information.
• Survey the staff at your site to determine the need for assistance and when/where tutors will work.
• Monitor staff at your site to determine if they are using interns in the prescribed way.
• Distribute tutor evaluation to host teachers and return completed evaluations to program coordinator.
• Keep program coordinator apprised of significant scheduling or staff changes.
• Attend the annual Site Coordinator’s meeting and Year End Reception.
• In case of emergency, follow emergency procedures to keep all interns in as safe as possible environment and contact program coordinator as soon as possible.
