Lead Interns

POSITION PURPOSE

The America Reads program is aimed at increasing English literacy among school age children. College students tutor reading in the K-3 grades in the public and private school systems. The America Counts program is aimed at increasing mathematical skills among high school, middle and upper elementary school children.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand the basics of the program and school district policies
  • Serve as a liaison between students, school and office
  • Serve as the “eyes and ears” for the program and notify program coordinator of any issue that may need to be addressed.
  • Provide a personal or email connection with the interns at your site.
  • Coordinate rides if at all possible or hook students up to do that themselves
  • Confirm with site coordinator where badges and attendance sheets will be.
  • Keep attendance sign in sheets current and available.
    • Collect all attendance sign in sheets and get site coordinator signature. Use school check in logs if needed to verify work shifts.
    • Do not set a different attendance sheet collection time. If you are tutoring or in class between 12:00- 2:00 on the assigned date, please let Debbie know when you will get them in.  It may mean an extra trip back to your work site.
    • Make sure that math in calculated correctly and there is a monthly total for each intern.  I WILL ADD TRANSPORTATION ALLOWANCE.
    • Mark your calendars to hand time sheets in to me by 2:00 p.m.  on the assigned date.
  • Manage intern name badges:
    • Deliver to site and confirm where site coordinator how and where the site coordinator wants them kept.
    • Collect badges and return to Debbie at the end of the school year.
  • Attend lead intern meetings (usually 2 a semester)
  • Attend  training (usually 1-2 a semester)
  • In case of an emergency on site assist school personnel and if possible account for all ARAC interns in the building and contact Debbie.
  • Notify Debbie of intern dress code violations. Intern does not need to know that it came from you.
  • Assist with training as requested.

THINGS TO REMEMBER

  • Ask Debbie questions
  • Meet interns assigned to your school
  • Read and respond to all emails immediately
  • Please do not email interns different information
  • Copy any correspondence to Debbie as well
