Whitman College alumni, parents and friends are invited to the New York City Opera's performance of Carmen with Mark Duffin '91 singing Don Jose.Thursday, Oct 12, 2006 at 7:30 pm. 20 Lincoln Center, New York, New York 10023 Mark Duffin will join the group for a post-opera gathering. A limited amount of Orchestra tickets have been purchased with a 20% discount and are available for $92, on a first-come, first-served basis. RSVP by October 7 by completing the form. Other tickets are available for a variety of prices and can be purchased by calling the box office at (212) 721-6500. Whitman College alumni parents and friends are invited to a lecture entitled "Living the Good Life: A Day in the Time of the Dead Sea Scrolls" with associate professor of anthropology Gary Rollefson. Following the talk, the group will tour the exhibit Discovering the Dead Sea Scrolls. Regarded by many as one of the greatest archeological discoveries of the 20th century, these scrolls predate Christianity. Until their discovery, the oldest Hebrew biblical manuscript known to scholars was written in 895 C.E. The biblical Dead Sea scrolls are more than 1,000 years older, having been transcribed or copied between 250 B.C.E. and 68 C.E., written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. RSVP by October 10. | Ski with Whitman's President Save the date! • Jan 26-29, 2007 • Sun Valley, Idaho President George Bridges and Dr. Kari Tupper invite Whitman alumni, parents and friends to join them for skiing and socializing in beautiful Sun Valley. Rooms have been blocked at the Sun Valley Lodge for January 25-30; stay just the weekend, or longer. The Alumni Association is arranging group dinners--Friday at the lodge, and Saturday, transported by sleigh to a cozy cabin restaurant (reservations required). Skiing, skating, swimming in the outdoor heated pool, and many other activities will fill your days, the warmth of Whitman friendships, your nights.
