2011 Class Banner depicts “Styx” sculpture
Teresa Hughes ’11, an art major and mathematics minor from Lacey, WA, was selected to design the 2011 Class Banner. She looked to a particularly popular — and often decorated — piece of campus art as inspiration for the design: “Styx,” the driftwood horse created by renowned sculptor Deborah Butterfield. “It is so much a part of the Whitman experience for many of us,” she says. “A simple representation of it seemed fitting as we commence [from] here. The colors were an easy choice; what better way to represent a graduating class of Whitman College than with blue and gold?”
