Join members of the Whitman College Portland Book Club for a gathering at the Rose City Yacht Club, 3737 NE Marine Drive on Monday, December 12, 7:00 p.m. Come share some heartfelt holiday cheer, enjoy the Christmas ship parade and sample some seasonal goodies and discuss the wonderful poems compiled by Garrison Keillor. The yacht club is located west of Salty's Restaurant. If you can, come at 6:00 p.m. and watch the Christmas ships launch from the RCYC breakwater. The main gate will be open at 6:00 and again at 6:50; if you are running late, call Judy Bennett's cell phone (503-804-2369) and someone will run up and let you in. (space limited to 80 people)

This is a perfect chance to bring friends or family to a book club meeting. Please join us, even if you haven't read the book! Dress warmly if you plan to attend the viewing from 6:00-7:00 p.m., otherwise, come as you are! RSVP to Judy at judy@tomnjudy.com.

Reservations and payment are due by December 7. Cost is $30 for garlic chicken or $25 for mushroom ravioli. Lunch includes entrée, salad, dessert and coffee. February 4, 2006 -- Eugene, Oregon
The Whitman Club of Eugene welcomes special guest Patrick Spencer, Professor of Geology, to speak on the newly installed exhibits of the Museum of Natural & Cultural History. Whitman alumni, parents, and friends will enjoy coffee service and a lecture from Pat before the museum opens for the day and then a docent-led tour of the facility. Come recreate the student experience with one of Whitman's prized faculty members!

The Whitman Club of Seattle plans events and activities in your area to keep you connected with Whitman College. In addition to our special events, we are proud to offer three exciting interest-related opportunities for you to connect on a regular basis in the greater Seattle area. The Seattle Book Club meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7 pm and strives to further Whitman connections through book discussions on a variety of subjects, including the occasional Whitman-related selection which provides an opportunity to invite professors and authors to join the club for special events. Books are selected by consensus of the participants and gatherings are organized by Bettina Hosler '83 and Bryna Allen '96.

The newly-created Whitman Dining Group invites Whitman alumni, parents and friends who enjoy dining out to gather once every two months at various Seattle restaurants in order to experience some of the city's best dinner spots and maybe even hear from local chefs. Planning ahead is essential for any group dining experience so reservations are required.

Whitman After Work. Unwind after the work day with Whitties -- reconnect with old friends and network with new ones every other month at some of the coolest local bars and pubs. Event announcements will be sent by the Alumni Office.

Les Miserables at the 5th Avenue Theatre.
Come see "the world's most popular musical" on its last Broadway touring company visit to Seattle with Whitman College alumni and parents. Professor Mary Anne O'Neil will talk on the creation of the musical, the history of its presentation and its relationship to modern French theater, and an overview of its relationship to Hugo's novel.

May 2006, will mark publication of the 19th edition of blue moon, Whitman College's annual literary arts magazine. Entirely student produced, the magazine features the work of Whitman students, staff, faculty and alumni.

Submissions:
January 31st, 2006 is the submission deadline for the 2006 edition of blue moon. Up to three prose pieces (10 page limit for each piece), four poems, and five pieces of art (including photography and slides or photographs of 3D art) may be submitted. Submissions can be snail-mailed to blue moon, Whitman College, Walla Walla, WA 99362 or emailed as JPEGS for digital pieces and RTF attachments for literary/poetry/prose pieces to bluemoon@whitman.edu. To pre-order a blue moon or make a donation, please contact editors Kelsey Ochs (ochsko@whitman.edu) or Amy Sharp (sharpah@whitman.edu).

Young Alumni! Contribute to Livewire
Deadline for next issue is January 6, 2006

There is still time for any alumni from 1996 to 2005 to contribute a wedding or new baby picture! Fill out the Class Note submission form at www.whitman.edu/alumni/classnotesform.htm, then, email photos to livewire@whitman.edu. Electronically submitted photographs must be at least 300 dpi for a three- by five-inch photo and must include an accurate caption to make it in time for the next issue. You may mail original photos to Livewire, c/o Whitman College Alumni Office, 219 Marcus Street, Walla Walla, WA 99362. If you would like your photos returned to you, please include a note. Don't forget to name everyone in the picture!


Whitman Makes News Again!

Whitman parent and Parents Core student Rosanne Skirble has published (Pittsburgh Gazette) and broadcast (Voice of America) two wonderful stories on Whitman's Parents Core program, created and coordinated by Professor Rogers Miles. These stories exemplify the spirit of Whitman College, where liberal arts learning is a lifelong process! Thank you Rosanne and Rogers.
